Devereux Scales of Mental Disorder
(DSMDTM) |
| Overview: Identify behavioural or emotional problems Administration: |
|
The Devereux Scales of Mental Disorder indicates whether a child or adolescent is experiencing or at risk for an emotional or behavioural disorder. The 111 item childform and the 110 adolescent form cover the full range of psychopathology and are based on DSM IV categories including:
Externalising disorders (conduct and attention delinquency scales)
Internalising disorders, anxiety, and depression
Criticalpathology disorders (autism and acute problems scale)
Any adult who has known a child for four weeks may serve as a rater. The same form is used for parent and teacher raters with separate norms provided for each. Its inconsistently excellent composite scale reliabilities and content validity data based on DSM IV criteria indicate the DSMD are a psychometrically robust tool for identifying behavioural and emotional problems and for use in treatment planning and outcome evaluation.
