Test of Pretend Play (ToPP) |
| Overview:
Assess symbol play, conceptual development and use of symbols
Age Range:
Administration: |
|
ToPP is designed to assess the 3 types of symbolic play:
substituting one object for another object or person
attributing an imagined property to an object or person
reference to an absent object, person or substance
ToPP can be used with a wide variety of children to:
assess a child's level of conceptual development and ability to use symbols (in measuring both these ToPP also measures important aspects of a child's readiness to develop language)
indicate a child's imaginative ability and creativity
indicate a child's emotional status
assess developmental difficulties.
ToPP presents two versions of the test using structured conditions:
non-verbal version - children up to three years and older children with insufficient comprehension to follow the language used in the verbal version
verbal version - children of 3 years and above.
ToPP has been co-normed with the PLS-3UK to enable direct comparison between the two measures.
